Casualty Simulation (GORE) Workshop
a bloody good time, beginner friendly but relevant to advanced artists
July 9th, 2025 180.00

A while back, I discovered that I love teaching my craft. Being there when artists create something impossible for the first time is, in my opinion, simply magical! Over the past year, I've been trying to figure out the best way to approach classes. My original vision was these big, massive week-long master classes. I wanted them to be show-stopping events, all about spectacular. The issue was cost, between the venue, materials, student kits, and then the students needing to figure out travel and lodging as cool as the dream was everyone was getting priced out, so over the past few months ive been trying to new alterations and i think the way to make this the most accesable is... drumroll please!!! One-day workshops focused on particular aspects. The workshops will function the same way as the classes, 6 to 8 hours of learning. We start with a lecture, followed by a demo, and then hands-on interactive learning. The first workshop will be all about casulty simulation gore, blood rigs, pros aid transfers, out of kit makeups and maybe a little zombie action while we are at it

Presentation Lecture and Q&A
After a brief introduction, we will start our day with a lecture on casualty simulation in film. We will cover everything from safety, set etiquette, materials, methodologies, and how and when to choose different approaches for creating a given look. We will also discuss different (fake) blood and their recipes, out of kit approaches, use of appliances, and more. After the lecture Time will be offered for Question and Answers
Demonstration A and B
There will be two demonstrations during the class. The first will be a casualty simulation makeup we will cover simulating injury with color, lacerations (cuts), bruising, and more, then move on to the out-of-kit options including silicone buildups, wax, and laterx (going into great detail about the limitations and risk involved as well as covering cross contamination. And finally move on to pros aid and silicone appliances, we will discuss adhesives, (and removers) skin sensitivities, blending, color, and application of blood we will then show how quickly you can make the leap from real to fantasy with a few minor tweaks to go zombie
The second demonstration will be interactive and take place before the days wrap out. It will be all about blood effects we will learn how to make offsite bladders then use a3 gallon fier extingwisher filled with blood and the tools we have develeped to exicute a slit throat gag in real time. The way it would happen on set

HANDS ON INTERACTIVE LEARNING
The whole point of this class is to help the next generation of storytellers, and in my experience, the best way to learn this kind of art form is to get your hands dirty after the first demonstration. Students will reproduce what they learned, create brushing laseration. working with silicone and Prosaid transfers, to create epic makeups and then pushing them over the line of reality into flesh-eating zombies
Then students will work with me on the aforementioned blood gag to execute a insane slit throat using no less then 3 gallons of fake blood
after all the fun is done we wrap on with a little open discussoin and Q&A before wrapping out
*tudents past present and future are always welcome to reach out for guidence if they find them self on set and they have a task they need help with*
